The little penguin button at the top will take you to a brand new feature that I will update every Monday: “Motif of the Week.” These are original colorwork motifs, charted by me and offered up for free for your knitting/crochet/crafty pleasure.

I plan to work up some tutorials on ways to incorporate these motifs into your own projects. Basically, you can use these charts and intarsia, stranded colorwork, duplicate stitch or embroidery to modify any pattern you wish to knit/crochet a picture onto. The motifs can be single icons or repeated across the fabric. Depending on your yarn and gauge, the pictures on your project can be tiny or quite large!

I’ll be offering some “blank” knitting patterns for items commonly embellished with pictures, such as hats, bags, socks… and I’m thinking: mug cozy. (I love mug cozies right now!) Any item can be your blank canvas for adding pictures or designs.

So… see you next Monday!

You can right-click the chart to save it to your computer for printed or adding to your pattern. Unless otherwise stated, all my swatches are shown in KnitPicks Palette fingering weight yarn. With intarsia for the body and embroidery for the beak, this little penguin looks like this:
