Does this pile of messy yarn and spilled beads look familiar to you? You might recognize it as all that remains of my Mystery Stole 4 project. I really enjoyed working on this project – both for the ever-changing lace charts and the serial knit-along of the clues – but the stole was too narrow to be useful to me, and I don’t care for the aesthetics of the design enough to get through knitting the identical second half of the stole.

That’s how I am with projects… when I’m excited about a project it can fly off the needles, but if the magic passes it becomes a chore, and hobbies are not supposed to be chore-like. And so I guiltlessly ripped out the mostly-completed stole, flinging beads everywhere as I worked, with thoughts of maybe overdyeing the yarn a different color before having a go at another project.
