Many of you have had horror-inducing experiences with the US Postal Service, and I can relate. I mean, they had to earn their reputations for bad service and surliness… bad reputations don’t just sprout out of nowhere, they have to be based on the collective bad experiences of many customers. Here in Chicago, we have postal service that’s among the worst in the nation… have I ever told you about the time we didn’t get mail for several days in a row, because there was a maintenance person working in the lobby of my building? If *paint* is enough to scare off the mail carrier, forget snow, hail, sleet…

Last night, I had an experience at my local post office to contradict all that bad rap. I had the most amazing, personal service from a postal employee who really went above & beyond the call of duty to help me. She only introduced herself to me as “Ms. Buie,” which really added to the anomalous, unusual character of the experience: some lady I didn’t know, in an office known for unhelpfullness & problems, doing me the personal favor of putting lots of extra work into my situation. I even wrote to the manager with a glowing review of her service– people like that deserve to be rewarded. We were able to find my final package from my Secret Pal, which had been missing since Sep. 22! And what a package it is.

Does my Secret Pal Victor have my number or what? I have loved mint-chocolate things since I was a little girl, and the best part about them is I don’t have to share with Rob, since he doesn’t like them! Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the gummi bears that were included, which met with their early demise shortly after the box was opened last night! Also, there was yarn. Boy, was there yarn. For now, let’s just say that my Secret Pal is located in GERMANY and the yarn is good enough to deserve its own Fiber Friday post….
