I have a new addiction. I’m completely smitten with knitting lace, and totally hooked on laceweight yarn. I’ve been knitting fiendishly on Hanami this weekend, so I’ll have impressive progress photos of that stole to share with you soon. My co-worker Sam is knitting two Hanami’s at the same time for her upcoming wedding– one for herself and one for her mother. Imagine my surprise yesterday when she was 3 rows ahead of me on BOTH stoles (in the same time it had taken me to get there on ONE stole)! So I’ve kicked the lace knitting into high gear to try to get ahead.

The madness doesn’t stop there. I found out about the sign-ups for Mystery Stole 4 (open till Sep. 12) and joined that knit-along with fiendish enthusiasm. The member information you get when you join comes with a sample chart to swatch with, so I threw myself at that project, too… the only problem is now that I’ve swatched and am pleased with my needle size and bead selection, I’m ready to start the Mystery Stole! But I have to wait until next month for the clues to begin… at least that gives me time to hopefully finish Hanami.

The yarn is Helen’s Lace that I dyed a custom color… it’s actually one of the  colors involved in the colorway #102 Mineshaft, and I love it for its sort of neutral pearlescence. I’m actually hoping that Lorna’s Laces will produce it someday as a solid color in its own right, since it’s plain enough to be versatile and widely appealing yet shiny and variable enough to be interesting and maybe even irresistable. I took another picture of my swatch against a black background so you can see the depth:

Whatever the Mystery Stole clues hold, it’s going to be a beautiful piece of lace. I’m anxious for it to get started! So I’ll be busying myself with other lace to stave off the cravings…
