For today’s Fiber Friday, I have a recent acquisition– I was a lucky winner over on Radiant Twist‘s recent contest. All I had to do was cast my vote for which fiber she should work on spinning (an easy choice in my opinion ;-) and I ended up with some great new sock yarn. Radiant Twist is having another contest currently, and the prizes this time are even more tempting… so I would recommend going to check that out.

My prize was Dream in Color Smooshy in the subtle hue “Deep Seaflower.” I had such a hard time photographing the color of this yarn! What you can’t really see in these shots are the undertones of purple and almost green amongst all that deep blue. I’ve really been drawn to blue yarns and fibers recently, so this is an exciting and much-appreciated addition to my sock yarn stash.

I’ve never knit with Smooshy but I’ve heard great things about it, so I’m really looking forward to knitting with it. (I mean, after the 60 other things I’m working on are finished.) I like that it’s on the thick side of fingering weight, because that gives me more flexibility to find a pattern that will fit well (64-stitch socks are usually too narrow if I have to knit on smaller needles than US2’s). Between the versatile gauge and the semi-solid color, this skein has great potential to become some really fancy socks– do I hear lace or cables tiptoeing in from the wings?
