This is shaping up to be a pretty productive weekend! Rob and I did our errands on Friday night, leaving the weekend days free for lots of relaxing and projects around the house. I finally finished and felted the second oven mitt for my sister, and put the finishing touches on the Malabrigo Loafers for my mom’s upcoming birthday.

I had to modify the pattern for the penny loafer panel a little bit to get it narrow enough to fit between the lines of the shaping on the top of the foot. (My corrected notes are here on Ravelry.) I also added some surface crochet to hide my hideous job of sewing the panels on, and to make their cast-on match the bind-off. All in all I’m extremely happy with the project, which would work with or without actual pennies!

I still have to sew on the 2-piece suede slipper soles that are on their way to me in the mail. I went to a local yarn store to look for them and they only had the 1-piece kind, which seemed like they wouldn’t work with the stretchiness of the garter stitch sole on these. I did manage to buy more Malabrigo to make this pattern again though! It’s a delightful orange hue that I’ll show off another time.

It feels really good to be on this little finishing spree! It’s a relief to finish the oven mitts from the summer, and my Ravelry notebook has never looked this under control before.  I’m torn as to whether I should spend the rest of the weekend finishing up other abandoned projects, or get to work on the new sock design I’ve been planning. Maybe I’ll decide after a long winter’s nap…
